Your 2022 Guide to Spending the Fourth of July in The Lowcountry

The holiday feels like summer’s halfway point, and it provides an amazing opportunity to make memories with friends and family before life picks back up again.
Rachel Calvert

There’s no place like the Lowcountry to celebrate the Fourth of July. The holiday feels like summer’s halfway point, and it provides an amazing opportunity to make memories with friends and family before life picks back up again. Whether you’re looking for some family-friendly fun, fireworks, or a date night with your love, the Lowcountry has so much to offer in the way of celebration. Here are a few ways to spend Independence Day 2022:

36th Annual Hilton Head Firecracker 5k

For the 36th year in a row, family and friends will gather to run the Annual Hilton Head Firecracker 5k on July 4th at 8:00 in the morning. The course covers some of the most beautiful scenery the Island has to offer and gets the holiday off to a running start. Stay after for the post-race festivities and a barbeque featuring burgers, hot dogs, and beer!

2022 Summer Jams on Hilton Head Island

Enjoy bounce houses, face painting, and fireworks with your kids every Tuesday this summer from 6 PM to 10:30 PM at Shelter Cove Community Park in Hilton Head. This free event will also take place on July 4, so pack your picnic blankets and lawn chairs, some snacks, and dinner and join in on the fun. The evening ends with an exciting fireworks display that you won’t want to miss!

Salute from the Shore

Take a trip to the beaches of Hilton Head Island at approximately 1:30 PM on July 4th for the annual Salute from the Shore, which honors our armed forces with a flyover in thanks for their courageous service to our country. The Sea Pines Beach Club offers a great vantage point to take in the planes, and it’s a wonderful way to show some patriotic spirit this July 4th.

Hilton Head 4th of July Parade

Show off your red, white, and blue spirit by decorating your bicycle, wagon, dog, or kids for a fun-filled 4th of July parade around Harbour Town! Participants will meet in the parking lot next to Quarterdeck at 8:30AM to register and pick up decorating supplies, which are limited to the first 100 registrants. Don’t forget: entries will be judged on patriotism, so plan accordingly! Be sure to stay after for carnival games, inflatables, and more.

Fourth of July Fireworks at Harbour Town

Join the festivities in Harbour Town on the 4th of July for a fireworks extravaganza! The show will start at approximately 9 PM, but get to the water early to enjoy the holiday and celebrate with friends and family, food, fun, and live music. Bring your chair or picnic blanket and watch as the pyrotechnics light up the sky!

Fireworks Show at Shelter Cove Harbour Fest

For the 33rd summer season, Harbourfest is taking place at Shelter Cove Harbour and Marina. Throughout the summer, enjoy family fun every Tuesday night, especially on the 4th of July! Once the sun sets, an exciting fireworks show will light up the sky! Stick around afterward for HarbourFest performances, including Shannon Tanner and Cappy the Clown! There will also be a plethora of activities available for kids.

Between the fireworks, the food, and the friendly community, there’s no better place to be on the Fourth of July than the Lowcountry. If you’re looking to capture this spirit permanently, then you may want to consider finding your slice of the American dream in Palmetto Bluff or another fine coastal community.
