Last year, many planned July 4th activities were canceled in light of COVID-19. However, with much of the population now vaccinated, residents and visitors to the Lowcountry can expect more summer events and activities to enjoy with the family this year! (You may still need to bring along your mask and social distance for some events, so keep that in mind.)
Here are a few ways you can celebrate Independence Day in the Lowcountry:
35th Annual Hilton Head Firecracker 5K
The 35th Annual Hilton Head Firecracker 5K is back! Celebrate the holiday with this family-friendly walk/run in Jarvis Creek Park, starting at 8 am. What better way to burn off the calories before all the BBQ later in the day?
Of course, you’re welcome to stick around for the Firecracker 5K afterparty; enjoy music, snacks, ice-cold refreshments, and more. The kiddos can even participate in the Children’s Fun Run!
2021 Summer Jams on Hilton Head Island
Kids can enjoy bouncy houses, face painting, and more at Shelter Cove Community Park during the 2021 Summer Jams series, back this year and happening every Tuesday from June 8th to August 10th.
While there is no event scheduled for July 4th, residents and visitors can still swing by on a Tuesday for a fun-filled summer evening with the family. Then, at the end of the night, set up a few lawn chairs or a picnic blanket to watch the fireworks!
Salute from the Shore
Take a trip to the beautiful beaches of Hilton Head Island between 1:30 pm and 2 pm for the 12th Annual Salute from the Shore, which aims to honor our armed forces while we spend the day with our loved ones. Who could ask for a better holiday weekend?
July Fourth Chalk the Walk
Want to get in touch with your creative side or have young artists in the family? Head down to Harbour Town on Hilton Head Island from 9 am to 11 am and draw to your heart’s content! You don’t even need to bring your chalk supplies; they’ll be provided for you!
Gregg Russell Fourth of July Concert
You read it right; Hilton Head Island icon, Gregg Russell, will be taking the stage the evening of July 4th at Sea Pines Liberty Oak, hosted by Sea Pines Resort!
For the safety of guests and staff, the resort will be spreading out and making distanced benches available. You’re welcome to bring your own folding chairs or picnic blankets to sit in the lawn area nearby too. Additionally, because children will be allowed on stage this year, the microphones they will share will be sanitized after each use.
Have other plans for July 4th? Don’t worry; Gregg Russell will be performing throughout the summer through Labor Day weekend!
July Fourth Private Wagon Ride
If you appreciate the Lowcountry wildlife, book a reservation with Sea Pines Resort for a private wagon ride, which takes you on a tour of the Sea Pines Forest Preserve. Learn about its history and existing flora and fauna while you’re there!
To reserve your spot, contact the Sea Pines Resort Recreation Department: (843) 842-1979. Tours will be available July 1st, 2nd, and 5th at multiple times throughout the day.
Uncle Sam’s Scavenger Hunt
Love a good puzzle? What about a scavenger hunt? Starting July 1st at 9 am, be on the lookout for patriotic clues that will lead you around Sea Pines! The search begins online, so keep your eyes peeled for the first clue.
Glow Bikes Hilton Head
What better complement to the fireworks in the sky than some glow lights on the ground below? Join GLOW Bikes in their 35-minute interactive bike tour at 10 pm, July 4th, as they cruise on decked-out glowing bicycles around Hilton Head!
Fireworks Show at Shelter Cove
End a wonderful day filled with July 4th activities at Shelter Cove, where you can see an extravagant fireworks display starting at dusk.
Don’t just come for the fireworks; stick around for several HarbourFest performances, including Shannon Tanner and Cappy the Clown! There will also be a plethora of activities available for the kiddos.
