If that spring breeze is compelling you to get outside, find productive ways to spend time improving all of those outdoor living spaces that tend to get neglected during the winter weather! While springtime spent in the soil can be cathartic for many of us, there are plenty of other parts of your home’s exterior that will benefit from a little time and attention, too–no green thumb required.
Get Organized
When you live in a place as lovely as the Lowcountry, outdoor recreation is a must. The only problem? With tons of recreational options comes tons of recreational equipment. From golf carts to grills, make sure that all of your outdoor spaces are organized and that all of your gear has a place to go.
Create charming nooks to tuck away any potential eyesores when they’re not in use. Lattice panels are a beautiful way to hide the golf cart when space in the garage runs dry. Vinyl fencing is perfect to hide trash cans or children’s toys. As you start spring cleaning your home’s exterior, finding a “home” for everything is the perfect place to start.
Find Fabulous Fixtures
As you look for ways to revamp your home, don’t underestimate the power of seemingly-small changes. Make a few tweaks to your outdoor fixtures to increase the cohesion and curb appeal of your home’s facade. Add symmetry with updated light fixtures on either side of the doorway. Make sure your house numbers are the same finish. From flower pots to ceiling fans, and stair rails to window frames, unify the finishes of your outdoor fixtures to make a huge impact on the aesthetic of your exterior.
Lovely Lighting
There are a plethora of ways to elevate the exterior of your home using nothing more than the right lights for your property. Make sure your home makes a statement every hour of the day by placing some focus on lighting. Add lanterns throughout your landscaping. Layer pendants on your porches. Find fun fixtures to light your walkways. While we all know how important a role lighting plays in our interior’s design, it’s important not to forget the impact intentional lighting can make on the outside of your home as well.
Have Fun with Fencing
When it comes to our homes, a little fencing can go a long way. While it may seem counterintuitive, adding fence lines to your property is a great way to create the illusion of more space. Use some elegant fence work to turn a small side yard into a quaint nature path separated from the rest of your outdoor spaces. Define children’s areas with a wood fence and a can of paint. Add a fence around your backyard with an idyllic gate to welcome guests. With tons of options and plenty of mediums, fencing is one of our favorite ways to define all types of outdoor spaces.
A Polished Porch
There’s no better place to spend your time this spring than on a South Carolina porch. If you plan to use your porch for larger gatherings, find furniture and accessories that complement your home’s interior design and create a fluid indoor/outdoor living experience. Whether watching the game and grilling or hosting a Lowcountry boil for the neighbors, make sure your porch is perfectly capable of providing you and your loved ones with plenty of opportunities to enjoy it all season.
Focus on Outdoor Entertaining
Does social distancing have you ready to make up for lost time with friends and family? Create additional outdoor spaces for you and your guests to enjoy with the help of the right pavers, comfortable furniture, and coastal decor. Adding a hanging swing or a pair of rocking chairs to the front porch is another great way to expand your capacity for hosting and entertaining.
From Adirondack chairs with a view of the water to a firepit next to the patio, the best way to revamp your outdoor spaces is by providing plenty of places to enjoy life in the Lowcountry with loved ones.
